JAKARTA, June 30 (Xinhua): The Indonesian government has prolonged the operation to hunt down members of a cell affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group in a deep forest of Central Sulawesi province.
The"Tinombala Military Operation," which had been scheduled to run till June 28, has been extended until Sept 30, the National Police's Spokesman Brigadier General Awi Setiyono said on Tuesday .
Dozens of militants have been captured or killed during the mission, including the group leader and his predecessor of Ali Kalora. Meanwhile, the Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,293 within one day to 56,385, with the death toll adding by 71 to 2,876, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
Within the past 24 hours, five provinces, namely South Kalimantan, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi recorded high numbers of cases, Yurianto said.
