Emily Hickox's Christmas gift from her father turned into a life-changing $500,000 lottery win after she played a Michigan Lottery instant game ticket she received during a family white elephant exchange.
An Indiana woman, Emily Hickox, won a $500,000 lottery prize after playing a Michigan Lottery instant game ticket she received as a gift during a family Christmas party. Hickox, who turned 25 on Christmas Day, said she participated in a white elephant gift exchange with her family. Her father won the lottery ticket in the exchange, and she won a flashlight as her gift. After the game, they agreed to trade gifts.
Hickox scratched off the ticket on her birthday, initially thinking she had won $50,000. Upon seeing the extra zero, she was speechless. 'I couldn't comprehend that I'd just won $500,000!' Hickox told the Michigan Lottery. 'Winning a prize of $500,000 is a thrill in itself, combined with the excitement of winning on Christmas, and your birthday, from a ticket you received as a gift makes it even more incredible. Congratulations Emily!' said Michigan Lottery Public Relations Manager, Shelly Shkreli
