On January 6 , 2021, during the attack on the US Capitol, Jeffrey Munger , a 55-year-old man from Indiana, admitted to entering the building through a broken window. Security camera footage captured Munger making his way through a shattered window next to a Senate side door. He was inside the Capitol for approximately 14 minutes, during which he even paused to take a selfie. Munger drove to Washington, D.C.
to attend the 'Stop the Steal' rally, a protest organized to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election. He was charged and arrested at his home in Goshen, Indiana, less than two months after the Capitol attack. Facing GPS and phone records that placed him on Capitol grounds for over an hour and 10 minutes, Munger entered a guilty plea to a single Class B misdemeanor charge of parading or demonstrating inside the Capitol. His sentencing is scheduled for late September. While the charge carries a potential six-month prison sentence, most similar guilty pleas from the January 6 insurrection have resulted in probation.
