“It was not restricted to seeking revenge. Women said they do not want to trade their freedom for safety … there was a social awakening of society,” she told AFP before the hangings.Singh, nicknamed “Nirbhaya” , survived long enough to identify her attackers and all six were arrested. Four were convicted in 2013.
