Vice presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday said the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act is too slow, noting that local government units are having a hard time enforcing it.

BATANGAS CITY — “When it comes to the issues and challenges of our healthcare sector, ang laki rin ng dapat gawin pa ng government. Unang-una na ang Universal Healthcare Act, it is already a law but ang bagal ng implementation ng batas, ang daming reforms na supposedly dapat nandoon but hindi pa. It’s either mabagal o hindi pa nasisimulan,” Duterte said.

Duterte said the measure is a good law but it has been a challenge for local government units to implement it. She admitted the local government of Davao City is also experiencing hardships in operating the said law. It was in February 2019 when President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the UHC Act, which guarantees that all Filipinos will have equal access to quality and affordable goods and services in healthcare.
