Unlike his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles does not share his ancestors love of stamps, with the royal family's collection valued at a whopping £100 million

It is no secret that the Royal Family enjoy some exclusive past times - from polo and carriage driving to grouse hunting.

While the late Queen and many of her ancestors, stretching back to Queen Victoria's reign, all shared an interest in the hobby, the same cannot be said for King Charles as he prefers to spend any of his free time gardening or painting. Stamps first came into circulation on May 6, 1840 during the early reign of Queen Victoria when it cost only one penny to send a letter which weighed under half an ounce. Of all the royal custodians, King George V was very dedicated to maintaining and growing the collection.

The enjoyment of stamp collecting passed from grandfather to granddaughter. Queen Elizabeth - who called King George V ‘Grandpa England’ - inherited his 328 albums of stamps.
