Incoming Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson has outlined what her main focus will be when she takes over the airline's top job on Wednesday.

Alan Joyce announced his resignation on Tuesday morning, bringing his retirement forward by two months to help the company"accelerate its renewal".

"We have spent a century safely carrying Australians to all parts of the globe and bringing the world to our shore," Ms Hudson said in the video. "As a company, our job is to get the balance right between looking after our customers, you our people and the business itself. On Tuesday morning Mr Joyce said in recent weeks"events of the past make it clear to me that the company needs to move ahead with its renewal as a priority".

Calls are now growing for the outgoing airline chief’s huge remuneration package to be slashed, with people across the political divide calling for Mr Joyce and other Qantas executives to be stripped of their bonuses.
