) - Nearly 90 Baldwin County 11th-graders put their best foot forward Friday, April 19, 2024 as they interviewed with utilities companies for possible summer internships. The program has grown tremendously in popularity since Riviera Utilities started it in 2021.
Ryan Mason of Daphne High School checks in, hoping to land a paid summer internship with one of Baldwin County's utilities companies“One thing that I specifically look for is just interpersonal skills, you know,” said Engineering Supervisor for Riviera Utilities water and wastewater service, Jason Skelton. “When…how they present themselves, the way they communicate with us and whether they can carry on a conversation. It’s sad to say that a lot of students today can’t.
“I applied for the Daphne Utilities internship as well as the Riviera Utilities internship,” said Casey Rivers from Foley High School. “I applied for the engineering aspect of it because engineering is something that I hope to in the future kind of you know, get into.” A good interview can set everything in the right direction and land that internship. It may not be the summer activity some of their friends are doing but it can offer a head start to a great career.
