Ina Garten gets candid about her longtime marriage to husband Jeffrey in her new memoir, revealing that the two once separated: 'It was the hardest thing I ever did.'
"At my lowest point, I wondered if the only answer would be to get a divorce," Garten shares in her new memoir, "Be Ready When the Luck Happens."Jessica is a staff writer at Entertainment Weekly, where she covers TV, movies, and pop culture. "I thought about it a lot, and at my lowest point, I wondered if the only answer would be to get a divorce," Garten recalls. "I loved Jeffrey and didn’t want to shock — or hurt — him, so I’d start by suggesting we pause for a separation." When the shop closed for the winter, Garten moved back to Washington, D.C., where she reconnected with Jeffrey. They were in a "a painful limbo," Garten recounts. "I doubted we could make our relationship work, and that we might be heading for divorce. I just couldn’t live with him in a traditional 'man and wife' relationship. Jeffrey hadn’t done anything wrong. He was just doing what every man before him had done.
