Best-selling author Anthony Horowitz’s new book, 'The Twist of a Knife,' the prolific writer takes a stab at critics
Prolific, best-selling author Anthony Horowitz has completed his fourth novel, “The Twist of a Knife,” in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series. For new readers, the gist of the books is elementary.
“A private detective called Daniel Hawthorne wants to make extra cash so he hires a writer to become the Watson to his Sherlock Holmes,” Horowitz said. “What’s unusual is that the writer he hires is me! I’m essentially a character in my own book, always one step behind Hawthorne and not terribly successful. You can read the books as stand-alones, although you learn more and more about Hawthorne as each one goes on.”For this installment, Horowitz becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation of an unpopular critic who happened to pan his new play that opened in London’s West End.
Horowitz is an acclaimed author and screenwriter who has written novels about James Bond, Sherlock Holmes and teenage spy, Alex Rider. He wrote “Foyle’s War” and “Midsomer Murders” and lives in Suffolk, England, with his wife.My play was an attempt to turn the ill-fated invasion of Iraq in 2003 into a farce. People were so bored hearing about weapons of destruction and dodgy dossiers, and I was trying to reawaken the debate by doing something dramatically daring.
