Summers in my hometown of Geneva, Switzerland used to bring sunny spells, but also long, rainy periods during which one wondered whether July had suddenly morphed into November. No longer. Climate change and its resulting heat waves have transformed the aquatic landscape, and more importantly the relationship between people and Lake Geneva .
Closer towards town near the new marina, a whole urban and aquatic concept was recently inaugurated recently after years of planning stalled by the pandemic. Besides the marina, it includes the Restaurant de la Plage built on a massive platform, and 1,300-foot-long beach—part sand, part gravel—that runs alongside a grassy promenade allowing for gentle water access.
