Freak rains have trapped hundreds of Australians at Nevada’s annual Burning Man festival as they wait for mud to dry.

The festival site, known as Black Rock City is a temporary community that pops up each year in the middle of a vast desert known as “the playa” for Burning Man. “There were cars and RVs abandoned across the playa on the way out, some with mud halfway up their tyres,” she told theThe scenes were more reminiscent of the UK Glastonbury festival or last year’s Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay, than Burning Man which is renowned for heat and dust.The makeshift town, which is a three-hour drive from the nearest airport, was still a mess on Monday and it was unclear still when people would be able to leave.
Despite the mud, the mood remained festive. Dance music is still pumping from loudspeakers and parties continue.
