UT Southwestern researchers project Dallas County will likely have over 1,200 hospitalized COVID patients by the end of the month

Tarrant County’s projections follow a similar trend. UT Southwestern researchers’ new forecast puts concurrent COVID-19 hospitalizations for the county at more than 2,000 by the end of the month, up from projections of 1,300 to 2,000 from Monday. At least 165 North Texas patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the area’s total COVID-19 hospitalization count to 2,681, according to the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council.

Even if hospitalizations don’t reach the peaks seen in the past, hospitals are struggling to stay adequately staffed as more and more workers come down with the highly contagious omicron variant. Wednesday’s totals represent 19.4% of available hospital bed capacity in north Texas’ trauma service area, up from 18.3% on Tuesday, Love said.
