When a 90-something-year-old voter in a wheelchair had problems with her ballot, another organizer stood with her to make sure her vote counted. When long lines exhausted voters waiting at Bayland Park, others handed out food and water to lift their spirits.

“ can be overwhelming and particularly for people who are not frequent voters, which most of us are,” Stein said. “They’re closing the gap.” “Ninety percent or more of those efforts are done by the political parties. They obviously want to keep you in line. If it's a hot day or a rainy day they'll bring out an umbrella or a bottle of water,” Stein said.

Houston in Action's 125 volunteers, organizers from partner groups and staff visited at least 77 different polling locations on Election Day.
