of stark racial disparities emerged, free testing is now available to all black, Hispanic, and Native American residents.

The House Energy and Commerce committee also announced Tuesday it would hold a hearing on states' testing plans, including access to testing for minority communities. "If we're looking to protect our most vulnerable in the population, then we need to concentrate some testing resources in the areas where they're more likely to live," saysDr. Philip Huang, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, said many of the testing sites in north Dallas are at private sector providers. That's where most of Dallas' hospitals are as well.

, one in South Dallas and the other downtown. Combined, they can test 1,000 people a day."A lot of the disparity ... is reflecting some of that private sector availability of tests in the northern part of Dallas compared to southern Dallas."started sending health care workers to residents' homes

This map is bull crap. Everything below 30 is not South Dallas

Yes, but convenient locations for testing ALSO don’t exist in my hood. There’s a reason southern Oak Cliff is known as a “food desert”

Go work there and do testing.

Yep, perfect example of America's blatant illogical unfairness.

Hey NPR! Congrats you got on the troll to do list today because apparently reporting in health disparities=encouraging looting.

That’s right, blame the messenger for reporting on the racial inequalities you tolerate in your community. If things are getting warm, better remedy the inequalities sooner rather than later.

I think north Dallas is more populated. Can you check that or do a population density map?

Same reason there’s fewer businesses and offices. Nothing to do with racism. But you do you NPR.

Look at population and density

Looks like a laid out chicken

Im 100% sure this bias exists here but can someone help me find where the actual population numbers are mentioned in this story? One side of 'the tracks' vs the other?

Protesters?

Sigh. Only compounded by the fact that our public transportation is... trying.

the point here is that racism doesn’t end with the arrest of george floyd’s murderer, it’s built into and sustained by the whole economic and political system

Tweet the reasons. The whys.

Reprehensible racism.

And you can’t get into any of them.

Do one based amount of income taxes paid per household.

Thanks ! This will DEFINITELY ease racial tensions in Dallas. 🖕

YEAH MUST BE RACISM 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

We call streets like that 'railroad tracks.'

Did you get your race riot talking points for today already? Was there any looking into to the actual reason, like lack of proper facilities, or did y'all just want to pour out a little kerosene today?

How long before they get looted and burned down? Over under is 16 hours.

It is not surprising and taken for granted. We have a system of politics, government and business that serve a few at the expense of the many. Your zip code says it all.

TinkerSec Yes...I remember. It doesn’t matter MS AL or Texas in my living case, it’s there.

NA_Dellsey

HirokoTabuchi Very interesting

Most of dallas is below 30 too

Dammit Dallas.

In how many ways does systemic racism show itself. America will never move forward until it owns its horrible past that directly impacts its disturbing present.

Stop saying South Dallas people. Oak Cliff is not South Dallas

Am I looking at this wrong? Why Lake Ray Hubbard shaded?

ecaudillmcclain This book writes itself. And it's all wrong!

Wylie_H_Dallas I suggest you take a film crew and see if there are any lines at any one of them - N Dallas, S Dallas, whatever. You will find there are no lines because virtually no one is symptomatic. Feel free to prove me wrong. Hint: I'm not wrong.

BetoORourke i had higher expectations of El Paso

and what is the population numbers for those areas. are they equal or different. what is the population density in the areas where testing sites are located?

Start first with doing away with borderlines!

fhunscripted has been saying this for years about Dallas and the disparity in this city.

Racists interstate !

Test sites per capita? I’m betting that the disparity will be confirmed but I didn’t see in the article. Density of population should drive the number of test sites.

It’s just like working voting machines.

Lol, Highland Park is so white they just colored it so on the map

White Republicans MAGA.

Can confirm. Source: Live in northern Dallas suburb (Frisco) Also, trump is responsible for 100k deaths

The majority of residents live north of I-30 but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it and they are purely motivated by racial discrimination.

I suspect this pic is accurate, but you're missing a key detail. Population. You would expect more sites where more people live.

Black and brown people need to vote. Put someone in office gunna change something. Put someone in office represents them and their priorities.

Gosh, by now I hope most people know that this is expected information.

Just WRONG!

It's a result of white supremacy.

Unreal stuff. And in Dallas?!

Not a coincidence.

Dallas is not the only city in Texas like that, look at Austin and Houston too.

I hate restaurants in Dallas on the northern side fuck em.

but racism isnt systematic or institutionalized in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM... riiiiight.

What happened to black people only making up 13% of the population? It seems they are well served with 33% of the testing sites?

Here, I fixed it. “That means cases are going uncounted.”

Thanks to Ron_Nirenberg , San Antonio is not one of these 4 cities. The San Antonio testing sites move every few days to different areas of the city. Will be interesting to see if San Antonio fares better than other cities .

Sigh goddammit

Bull crap article that does not know South Dallas from Oak Cliff !!! If you going to write a article about Dallas learn the correct areas

Makes sense. Since the white community is disproportionately affected. Wait, what

NPR investigation is not to be trusted.

Push to Build Border Wall Accelerates in Texas Despite Coronavirus PandemicPush to Build Border Wall Accelerates in Texas Despite Coronavirus PandemicSince March, the government has filed 24 federal cases against South Texas landowners for the border wall, more than the previous eight months combined. In 3 years, Trump's built a grand total of 3 miles of new wall where none existed previously. That's it. 167 miles of rehabbed wall that is just as easy to scale and cut as the prior wall/barrier. It's a waste of federal resources, and value signals to his bigoted base. they probably voted for the man child When the fuck are the Chinese going to buy my pork and soybeans is the more important question.
