Novel adaptations and movie adaptations have regularly proved popular on Netflix. By that metric, a new series based on both a movie and a novel is sure to prove a hit.
Based on the same novel that inspired the hit 2004 movie starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, the brand-new, must-watch crime thriller Man on Fire made its Netflix debut recently to plenty of fanfare, including fairly positive responses from both critics and audiences. Split into seven episodes, the brand-new series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former mercenary who is on the hunt for revenge and on a mission to keep a young girl alive in the deadly Rio streets.
The series also features Billie Boullet, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Bobby Cannavale in supporting roles, and quickly rose to the top of the Netflix TV streaming charts, where it faces competition from the likes of true-crime series Should I Marry A Murderer, Jack Thorne's Lord of the Flies, WWE RAW, and more. Now, a new report has confirmed that Man on Fire is one of Netflix's most impressive new series releases of the year, scoring an eye-catching 11 million views in just four days following its April 30 debut.
This will come as no surprise to those who have read the many positive critical responses to the series, including from Collider's Carly Lane, who called it a"perfect binge," and"a thriller adaptation that's confident in its story, characters, and action" in her official review.
