In Hugo Broos’ words ...
Here are some of the things he has said since Bafana Bafana arrived in the Cape Coast, for their final 2022 World Cup Group G qualifier, in which South Africa must avoid defeat against Ghana tonight:“I think it’s time that Fifa does something on that. I know for some countries it’s difficult to have a proper stadium, to play in the capital [city] where we can travel easily. This cost money and it’s not easy for some countries.
“It’s not normal that we and Zimbabwe had to travel to Ethiopia and that Ghana could come to paradise, South Africa…I’m sorry but this is paradise. I don’t know if you know Bahir Dar in Ethiopia, this is paradise in Joburg. This is not normal. This is not fair. I don’t blame Ghana, but I blame CAF and Fifa - they have to change. We’re talking here about the qualifiers for World Cup. The highest tournament in football.
“To save my job? You spoke already with the president of South African [Football Association]?He told you that this will save my job? Can I ask [you]: You’ve [also] talked to president of the Ghana federation about what will happen to the coach of Ghana? This is our job and don’t think that I’m actually afraid if we don’t qualify, I’ll lose my job – maybe, hahaha.” Coaches come and go. And I am not at all afraid to lose my job.”“We have already done a great job. We have 13 points.
