The House passed a stopgap funding bill Saturday, making a government shutdown less likely. But McCarthy needed Democratic votes to get the bill passed.Attendees at the state Republican Party convention were just as divided as their representatives in Congress.
A government shutdown could negatively affect Republican candidates’ chances in next year’s elections. A “In the short run, I think it could hurt us,” he added. “But I still believe that most of our citizens are conservative, and it will be OK.”
