In the Tradition Piano Trio will perform a tribute to Mexican music and composers to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at 7 p.m. May 7 in the Piedmont Center for the Arts at 801 Magnolia Ave. in Piedmont. Performing will be Bill Jackman on the Steinway grand piano, Anthony Pegram on drums and Rich Trevor on bass.
The program will include “La Mentira,” “Sabor a mi,” “Amor” and other melodic pieces. Photo identification, proof of COVID-19 vaccination and social distancing will be required. Tickets are $25 at the door or $23 atMeet and greet the Piedmont Unified School District’s new superintendent, Dr. Jennifer Hawn, from 5 to 7 p.m. May 8 in the plaza between the STEAM building and Alan Harvey Theater on Piedmont High School’s campus. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Hawn was chosen from a field of qualified candidates in a nationwide search to replace Superintendent Randall Booker, who recently left the district for another position. Dr. Donald Evans served as interim PUSD superintendent for the 2022-23 school year.The Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee is sponsoring some programs to help kids thrive in an ever-evolving and diverse environment. The free learning sessions will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library at Havens Elementary School at 323 Highland Ave. A session next week on Tuesday will be for fourth- through seventh-graders; a May 4 session will be for eighth- through 12th-graders; and a May 11 session will be for infants through third-graders. The sessions will be led by Dr. Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard, the Piedmont Unified School District’s director of diversity, inclusion and equity.The Montclair Village Association will continue a longtime tradition established by the Montclair Lions Club when the association hosts the 2023 Montclair Village Restaurant Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. May 16. This year’s Restaurant Walk will festively feature more than 25 stops on the “Passport,” with local restaurants offering samples of delicious bites. New in 2023 will be a growing list of participating retail and service businesses pouring libations to ticketed patrons. Another addition to this family-friendly event will be entertainment by balloon animal artist/entertainer extraordinaire Nikki Borodi, made possible by generous supporters of the Montclair Cares Club.
