Late Monday night, the Chico Animal Shelter contacted the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society with an urgent request to free up kennel space for pets displaced by this devastating fire.

Berkeley Humane officials, staff and communities affected by the Park Fire thank the public for any support they can offer.

Free dinner and laptops will be available for completing financial aid applications. Interested families and students can reach out to Maddie Orenstein atRichmond Promise invites the community to join in celebrating its newest group of college-bound scholars as the organization hosts its annual Scholar Celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at Richmond’s Civic Center Plaza.

Richmond Promise serves more than 1,300 young adults who are pursuing associate degrees, bachelor degrees and career technical education certificates at more than 200 U.S. colleges and universities. Most Richmond Promise Scholars identify as people of color, first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds.

“With an incoming cohort of nearly 500 students this year, the Scholar Celebration serves as a great reminder that working towards postsecondary success remains a priority for Richmond students and families. We can’t wait to see everyone and celebrate together.”Eligible residents interested in running for the El Cerrito City Council in the Nov. 5 election can now obtain nomination documents and a candidate’s packet from the city clerk.
