Rail vehicle manufacturer Stadler has introduced the RS ZERO, a model that features hydrogen and battery drives for CO2 emission-free operation.
The new model, which is a successor to the Regio-Shuttle RS1, offers a choice between two eco-friendly drive technologies: hydrogen and battery power .
Stadler is now enhancing this reliable technology by incorporating advanced, eco-friendly drive systems. The RS ZERO will aim to set standards for environmentally friendly rail transport and introducing a unique feature in the industry, the companyIn Germany, 38% of railway lines are not electrified, and the figure rises to 43% across Europe. To boost rail traffic as part of the transport transition, many old and non-electrified lines need to be revived.
According to Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Germany, the RS ZERO prototype represents the next step in alternative drive technology at their Berlin site, following the battery-electric FLIRT Akku.The RS ZERO comes in single and double units, seating between 70 and 150 passengers. It has a low entry height, a spacious low-floor area, and barrier-free access, making it easier for passengers with limited mobility.
