KUALA LUMPUR: The presence of Immigration Department personnel at Menara City One here is to assist in checking documents of foreigners residing there.
Media at the site were made to understand that personnel were there to conduct sanitisation and health screening works before an immigration spokesman said its officers were also there to help scrutinise immigration documents belonging to foreigners.
Immigration personnel were seen at the premises as early as 10.30am on Friday along with personnel from other agencies including the police, Armed Forces, Malaysia Civil Defence Force as well as healthcare workers wearing personal protective equipment . Around noon, several people believed to be foreigners were seen sitting in one area of the building and police and immigration trucks which had been parked along Jalan Munshi Abdullah drove into the premises around the same time.
The operation ended at around 1.45pm and a four-wheel drive vehicle believed to be ferrying Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud was seen leaving the premises without addressing pressmen. When contacted, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the operation was nothing out of the ordinary and described it as"normal procedure".Menara City One has been under an enhanced movement control order since March 30.
