In February 2021, Christian M'Bagoyi, and his wife, Sarika, celebrated after leaving the ICE office in Philadelphia, where he had been required to appear in person. The couple didn't know when he went in whether he would be allowed to walk out. However, last month M'Bagoyi was arrested at his South Philadelphia home by ICE. He faces deportation to West Africa on Wednesday.

Supporters plan to rally outside the Philadelphia ICE office at noon on Tuesday, and to commence a “phone zap” — a M’Bagoyi’s situation shows the vagaries of the U.S. immigration system, which can mete out widely varying treatment toM’Bagoyi had been issued a final order of removal, and according to ICE, had exhausted all forms of immigration relief. But in the U.S. system, final does not necessarily mean final.
