Opinion: Imelda Padilla for Los Angeles Council District 6
Voters in the eastern San Fernando Valley’s Los Angeles Council District 6 have until June 27 to cast their ballots for who will represent them in Los Angeles City Hall.
The district was formerly represented by Nury Martinez, who resigned last year after a secret recording was released of her making racist comments about a variety of individuals and groups.Imelda Padilla, a community organizer who briefly worked for Martinez many years ago as a field representative, was the top vote-getter in April.
In second place was Marisa Alcaraz, a longtime city staffer who works for Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price. Unfortunately for Alcaraz, Price was charged this past week on a litany of corruption charges. This editorial board has interviewed and surveyed both candidates. For us, it’s a no-brainer: Imelda Padilla is the better choice for the district.
Padilla vows to engage with everyone in the district, from community groups to business groups, to get ideas on how best to solve the problems facing the eastern San Fernando Valley and the city as a whole.
