A small village outside Cincinnati, Ohio, is struggling to cope with a large influx of illegal immigrants from Mauritania. The situation has led to overpopulation in housing units, sanitation issues, and financial strain on the village.

Wehmeyer voiced concern about two apartment complexes where the units should house four individuals. But officials have said they have found up to 12 individuals living inside single units. Such living arrangements can cause other problems regarding sanitation and safety, Wehmeyer explained. “And they have essentially displaced the taxpaying residents of these 200 apartment units and filled them with non-tax-paying residents. We’re losing about $125,000 to 150,000 in revenue because of that,” Wehmeyer noted, adding that officials have met with congressional leaders, state representatives, and the governor’s office regarding the issue.
