Women angry over pension age changes could have ‘outsized influence’ on general election, Sir Keir Starmer has been warned
Shadow cabinet minister Emily Thornberry told ITV on Friday that the Government should be given some “time and space” to respond to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman ’sBut Angela Madden, Waspi’s chair, claimed that one Waspi woman was dying every 13 minutes, adding: “One thing Waspi women don’t have is time”.
“If you look at the key voter block of 2019 Conservatives who are currently undecided – it is disproportionately older women. It’s 60 to 70 per cent female, with an average age in the sixties. He added: “It puts pressure on Labour on the Waspi issue. I’m not saying it’s good policy, but it would be good politics to have something .”Polling guru Professor John Curtice said Waspi compensation could become a key issue on the campaign trail – but he dismissed the idea that there were a lot of fresh votes for Labour to win among older women angry about their pension.
