[ICYMI] IFP to continue using Buthelezi branding

JOHANNESBURG - The Inkatha Freedom Party's branding has been in the news recently after communication was sent to members saying any regalia used must bear the face of party founder Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, IFP Secretary-General Siphosethu Ngcobo says Buthelezi is the brand of the party and his face will be used on all regalia.Ngcobo said,"Recently, I had to respond to inquiries regarding an internal memorandum which I distributed." "It was grossly misinterpreted. Nobody would deny that Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi is the IFP's strongest brand. Due to his legacy and commitment, the IFP continues to grow from the 2021 elections."

"In the run-up to 2024, the IFP had internal discussions about brand discipline. We resolved to reaffirm the party resolution to continue using our founder's face as our brand. [The] memo sought to reinforce this. Any party's brand is its strength and brand discipline will be critical in what we believe will be our strongest showing in 2024."
