If your partner asks your father for his permission to propose, walk away ✒️ RebeccaCNReid
It’s a wildly divisive topic and it tends to be an unpredictable one. Some of my most dyed in the wool feminist friends have privately expressed that they think it’s “quite nice” for their father to be asked first, and some of my least right-on mates think it’s “literally insane”.
None of those things remain true – the average first-time bride in the UK is now 31-years-old. So the chances are she’s left home, had a job, made some friends, maybe traveled, maybe bought a flat – whatever her list looks like, she’s done something. She’s not a child and she’s capable of making her own decisions. In my personal case it seems like utter madness that as a homeowning 31-year-old, it would be suggested that the men in my life would need to make deals for my hand behind my back.
