The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has launched a fresh round of strikes in Lebanon's capital after earlier bombing residential blocks in Beirut's south, claiming they contained the Hezbollah headquarters. Senior Hezbollah commanders were targeted in the strike, an Israeli official said, adding it was too early to tell if Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed. The IDF confirmed it is continuing to strike Hezbollah targets in the Bekaa region of Lebanon.

The IDF has launched a fresh round of strikes in Lebanon 's capital after earlier bombing residential blocks in Beirut 's south, claiming they contained the Hezbollah headquarters.

"Following the alerts that were activated a short time ago in the Samaria region, one launch was detected that crossed the territory of Lebanon and fell in an open area," a post on X said.Lebanon's health ministry said on Saturday that hospitals in Beirut's southern suburbs would be evacuated after heavy Israeli strikes in the area, urging hospitals in unaffected areas to stop admitting non-urgent cases.

An unprecedented five hours of continuous strikes early on Saturday followed Friday's attack, by far the most powerful by Israel on Beirut during nearly a year of war with Hezbollah. About 1am, local time, buildings inanother Hezbollah stronghold 30km east of Beirut, was attacked somewhere around 4am local time. The IDF said it struck terrorist targets "deep" in the valley.

Amid the ongoing war in Gaza, Israel has exchanged fire with Iran-backed Hezbollah for almost 12 months in skirmishes along its northern border. The escalated campaign has killed more than 720 people in Lebanon, including dozens of women and children, according to Health Ministry statistics. Senator Wong used her address to call for global international efforts aimed at ending conflicts around the world.
