'Yorkshire is my roots but I'm not offended by Lancashire'

Which generation of Earby resident you speak to will probably determine whether they are firmly in the Red or White Rose camp.

"I say I live in Yorkshire, I was brought up here and would never live anywhere else" Sue told LancsLive, without a glimmer of hesitation. But then she paused. "But the young people here, those that were born way after the border changes in the 70s, they say they live in Lancashire. Yorkshire is my roots but I'm not offended by Lancashire.

Earby is 'sitting on the fence' figuratively and literally. There's subtle hints to where its residents believe it truly belongs, while there's also an acceptance that it can be red and white, as evident in the windows of Albion Hall. Residents celebrate Yorkshire Day and Lancashire Day, because why not?

Victoria features necessities such as a butcher, green grocers and convenience stores along with hair dressers and beauty salons while the Red Lion Pub is a proper traditional boozer, with regular events and live music nights. Earby is blooming with character and charm, from a tiny community garden to rest as you negotiate a steep lane to the ancient Old Grammar School building which dates back to the 1600s.
