Faced with a severe medical staffing shortage due to a surge in the COVID-19 cases and dwindling blood supply, Idaho health officials activate crisis standards of care guidelines for the second time in less than a year.
Despite a national decline in COVID-19 cases, more than 1.1 million children tested positive last week and 19 states reported cases are still rising.
More than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases, the majority caused by the omicron variant, were reported in the state on Monday, according to the state's coronavirus online dashboard data. A high number of both clinical and non-clinical medical staff members have been unable to work because of being infected by the virus, health officials said.
