A group of protesters attempted to interrupt Anthony Albanese's Labor conference on Saturday morning waving banners and graffitiing an iconic statue in Melbourne.

A small group of pro-refugee activists have demanded the government end its"racist" asylum seeker policies during a protest in Melbourne.

"The last decade has seen the proportion of social housing decline from 4.7 per cent to 4.2 per cent of households," Mr Albanese said on Saturday.
