After 70 years, Spanish Village, the iconic, popular Third Ward restaurant will permanently close its doors at the end of March.
Restaurant owner Steve Rogers said in a release that he promises the restaurant’s legacy “will live on in an upcoming project to be announced at a later date,” according to a news release.
Rogers bought the restaurant from the Medina family in the summer of 2021 following the first announcement that they would shut their doors for good, the release said. Since the transition, Rogers focused on moving the restaurant forward, honoring its legacy, and giving customers the opportunity to see it in its 70th year.“There’s absolutely no arguing the impact Spanish Village has had on the Third Ward.
The restaurant first opened in 1953 and quickly became a Houston staple with its traditional Tex-Mex menu and atmosphere. They are famous for their margarita recipe passed down through generations, and traditional dishes such as fajitas marinated in-house. “You still have some time – swing by to visit the original favorites that many have learned to love,” Rogers said on his Instagram. What do you think about Spanish Village closing its doors after 70 years?
