I found myself thinking this might just be some kind of culinary crime against Italy
Iceland , known for its innovative food products, has launched a new range of ready meals that combine classic dishes with festive favourites. Among them are the Luxury Pigs in Blankets Carbonara and Luxury Pigs in Blankets Lasagne. First on the menu was the carbonara. As someone who prides themselves on their homemade version, I wasn't expecting this to surpass it. However, as far as ready meals go, this one is decent enough, especially if you're a fan of super creamy sauces.
Sandwiched between the pasta layers are bits of turkey breast with cranberries and smoked pancetta in gravy, topped off with seasoned breadcrumbs and two pigs in blankets. Straight away, you can smell the stuffing-like aroma of the breadcrumbs - very Christmassy, so not necessarily a bad thing, just unusual for a lasagne. The issue arose when I took a bite. The potent herbs hit you first and it's this clash of flavour with the familiar lasagne texture that is hard to stomach.
