Shoppers have been urged not to eat the product
Iceland has recalled an item over contamination fears that could 'cause illness' if eaten. The supermarket chain has issued the alert for the Cathedral City Cheese and Ham Gratin because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product.
The 400g packs with a best before date of May 2, 2024 have been recalled with shoppers urged not to eat it and return it instead. Symptoms caused by the organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.An update shared by the Food Standards Agency said those that may have bought the product should not eat it and instead return it to the store from where it was bought from for a full refund.
"Iceland Foods is recalling the above product and has issued point-of-sale notices to their customers," the update said. "The product listed above is contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes which can cause illness if consumed. "Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems," the update said.Join our WhatsApp Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link.
