ICE has made nearly 2,400 arrests and lodged nearly 1,800 detainers in the early going of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
President Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan warned everyone who is living in the U.S. illegally that they’ve “got a problem” and face potential arrest as federal authorities ramp up their deportation efforts.for an interview that aired this weekend. “Because it's not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country. You got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under Title Eight, the United States Code 1325. It's a crime.
Donahue said Trump’s team told the National Sheriffs' Association that he’d declare cartels as international terrorist organizations.“As far as I'm concerned, they are literally fulfilling the promise that they made on the campaign trail and to the American people, specifically to the American sheriffs,” Donahue said.
Donahue said federal authorities appear to have a good handle on their immigration enforcement efforts during the first week of Trump’s presidency, though he said criminal immigrants might get harder to root out as time goes along. Sheriffs aren’t authorized to enforce federal law, but Donahue said most sheriffs would likely be happy to help with immigration enforcement operations in a support capacity if federal authorities make the request.“They look through certain computer systems that we have to locate addresses and property and registrations on vehicles. They’ll then go to those apartments or homes where those people are reported to live, and they will start to conduct surveillance.
