Rubiales membuat pendedahan tersebut dalam temu bual bersama Piers Morgan di TalkTV ketika menjelaskan mengapa dia mengambil masa agak lama untuk berundur biarpun menerima kritikan hebat sejak insiden mencium bintang Sepanyol, Jenni Hermoso dalam upacara penyampaian hadiah Piala Dunia Wanita, 20 Ogos lalu.
Selepas dua hari Bejar dimasukkan ke hospital, seorang paderi tempatan berkata, dia telah bergelut dengan panas dan kakinya telah menjadi bengkak, letih dan cemas. “Saya sangat takut melihat keadaannya. Pada satu ketika buku lalinya telah membengkak sepenuhnya. Dia menghidap hipertensi,” kata Rubiales.
