"Sangat menyedihkan pada pagi Jumaat di usia 88 tahun. Dia pergi dalam keadaan tenang di hospital meninggalkan keluarga dan kerjaya. Beliau seorang yang baik, mesra dan berbakat besar. Kami akan sangat merinduinya," katanya.
Ian Holm dilahirkan pada tahun 1931 dan memulakan karier lakonan sejak tahun 1957. Selain siri Lord of the Rings dan The Hobbit, beliau sudah berlakon lebih 70 filem antaranya Henry V, The Homecoming, The Bofors Gun dan Chariots of Fire.
