Evertonians will love Iliman Ndiaye reckons David McGurk who gave the player his first taste of senior football at Hyde United
Evertonians will love Iliman Ndiaye, a skilful ‘street footballer’ who combines his tricks with a hardworking nature honed in the rough and tumble of the non-League game.
“There are a lot of egos in football – especially at the highest level – but he was just so passionate about playing and you’ll see that with his performances. I think the Everton fans will love him on the ball and they’ll love him even more off the ball because he gives absolutely everything.” “That was just on a skill level but what also impressed the squad and myself over the next few weeks was his mentality and the fact that he was prepared to work hard. He embraced the situation and there were no airs and graces about him.
“We also had Paddy Lane with us at the time, who was promoted with Portsmouth last season, and those two enjoyed playing alongside each other. They were two talented young lads and we just let them get on with it as although we had a strong structure in place we thought we’re going to go away from it, give those two the ball and let them do what they want.
“I didn’t see him as a centre-forward at the time although I know he subsequently did brilliantly for Sheffield United playing in that role. He loved to be on the ball because he was a bit of a street footballer where he just wanted to be in possession and play and we let him do that but there’s obviously been some great coaching that has gone on since then.
“He’s got a really strong core, and I don’t think he’s had many injury problems over the years and with the strength and conditioning coaching he’s had since, I imagine that’s come on even more.”
