'I was always the party girl - no one knew the dark truth I was hiding'
Christine Wright was always the party girl. Binge drinking every weekend, she was known as the fun and outgoing one among her friends.
Christine was 17-years-old when she was raped at a house party on Boxing Day 1993. “To get through that trauma just meant more and more alcohol,” she told the Manchester Evening News. While alcohol was still present in Christine’s life, with the mum drinking a bottle of wine every night, things were starting to look up. But then her marriage ran into trouble.
She managed to pull him over the railing and cradled him for half an hour while waiting for emergency services to arrive. During that time, the stranger told Christine about his struggles – with his life story almost mirroring that of her own. “I turned around at the next set of lights and he was over the safety guard. I pulled him over and saw and cradled him for half an hour while help came.
Knowing she had to make a change sooner, she booked a plane ticket to Bali where she set up her online business Habitbreaker – an organisation which helps people break negative habits that have detrimental impact on their lives – and finally became sober.
