A missing persons case has turned into a death investigation after the body of Crystal Lea McCarthy was found in the Napa River.
Crystal Lea McCarthy, 37, was last seen at a Napa 7-Eleven on Dec. 13, 2021. Her body was found over a week later in the Napa River.
McCarthy, a 37-year-old Napa resident, was reported missing on December 14 after failing to return home from a quick errand. According to the Napa Police Department, she was last seen on surveillance footage from the 7-Eleven on Silverado Trail and Lincoln Avenue the night before. The footage showed her speaking to a man, who police said was homeless, before leaving the store. Investigators said that man was located and interviewed and is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
McCarthy traded a number of texts with her father, Mark McCarthy, that night."She sounded fine. We were checking back and forth like we do daily," heDuring a search organized by friends and family, McCarthy's boyfriend discovered her boots and umbrella on the banks of the Napa River nearby. On December 23, a body was found by a sheriff's deputy on a patrol boat near the Third Street Bridge. An autopsy confirmed Wednesday the body belongs to McCarthy.
