The brand new Stockport Interchange began operating today
Stockport residents have reacted to the town’s new bus station – describing the £135m project as “absolutely amazing”.The project, which comes as part of a major £1bn investment into the town, has been delivered by Transport for Greater Manchester, Stockport Council, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
“I think it’s brilliant,” the 84-year-old told the Manchester Evening News. “I’ve lived in Stockport all my life and it’s nice to see what’s happening. “I think it’s really good,” she told the MEN. “I like it. When everything is finished, and the new properties and restaurants have been built, it’s going to look smart. It was grotty before.Colin Davidson, who lives in Davenport, said his favourite part about the building is the view from the park above.
Chris Barnes, head of projects group at Transport for Greater Manchester , said last week: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the first bus passengers to this modern, attractive and accessible new interchange. Trials were run by TfGM staff several weeks ago to help prepare them to run buses from the new interchange.
