My initial response was to go straight into planning mode with a watertight schedule, 9am was exercise, 10 0’clock sharp was study - the schedule was planned right until 4.30pm. Reality bit hard, as I realised I needed to chill the fuck out if this was going to work, it needed some structure, yes, but not within an inch of its life.
My biggest learning has been the carrot. The carrot is key. Instead of punishment, I work on reward and the forbidden fruit. Find the one thing your kids are not normally allowed to do but desperately want to - in my case, computer games, Minecraft in particular - and offer it as a bribe throughout the day, by allowing them 15 minutes of it at the end of the day. Believe me, it works.
