Polina and Serge fled their war-torn homeland to start 'Stunner' on South King Street

It was 4am in the morning when Polina Vynohradova and Serge Shcherbyna received the call that war between their native Ukraine and Russia had started. The pair had left Kyiv just merely hours before to meet up with a friend and exchange ideas about how they could run their vintage football shirt store with the threat of conflict on the horizon.“We didn’t know what to do next with Stunner.

With the help of the visa scheme for Ukrainians they were able to settle in the UK and they arrived in November 2022 and instantly fell in love with the football culture of Britain which they document on their Instagram page. “Now it’s kind of ironic that we’re here where the whole scene got established, giving it a second shot right here, it’s amazing really.

Stunner in Manchester, which is named for the phrase for a spectacular goal, is the second iteration of their Kyiv store. A ‘2.0’ as Serge describes it. “Whenever I had some spare money I would just go to my local market in Ukraine and spend it all on football shirts and I had quite a collection, even though they were all fake.

"It was something special and I loved the concepts and the designs. Now I have more shirts than him!”
