The mother says Anitra Holloman was the “go-to-girl,” remembered as a supportive friend during times of trouble and the life of the party in the most special moments.
WBRC was sitting with Kemp as she flipped through cards from Holloman’s funeral. They remain sealed, unopened to this day. “Me opening them is like me accepting it and that’s probably one thing I haven’t gotten over yet,” Kemp said.
“I’m still trying to grasp… that she’s not here.”Holloman was 21-years-old when she was gunned down on Sept. 21, 2024. This Sunday marks one year.Kemp is filled with emotions but not losing grasp of who her daughter was. She says Holloman was the “go-to-girl,” remembered as a supportive friend during times of trouble and the life of the party in the most special moments. Now Kemp is reliving those moments daily as she raises her grandbaby as her own.“This girl acts just like her mom,” she said. “Like she don’t act like the baby Anitra, she act like the Anitra that just left.” Now, Kemp is turning her pain into purpose, creating the Anita’s Light Foundation to help kids, like Skiler, who lost parents to gun violence. Kemp told WBRC that the foundation will offer children mental health counseling, job readiness, and eventually scholarships. “I really, really miss her,” she said. “Would I even be on this mission for change if it didn’t affect me?”
