PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 Tan Boon Heong has, for the first time, admitted that he regrets bringing the curtain down on his national team career in 2015.
Boon Heong quit the Badminton Association of Malaysia after 11 years of service with the national team where he had enjoyed a successful partnership with Koo Kien Keat between 2007 and 2013, highlighted by victories at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, 2007 All-England and 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games.
“I went through a rough patch at that time and I thought the writing was on the wall. But looking back, I gave up rather too quickly. Boon Heong stressed that while school-level competitions offered an important launchpad into state teams, there were other avenues.
