They have no idea what's being said.
I am having a problem with my 9-year-old son and I’m completely stumped for a solution. We took him and two of his friends to the movies. We drove them there, stayed with them, and drove home.
During that time, we overheard some horrifying innuendos relating to blow jobs and sex in general. This one boy, I know, is allowed to watch YouTube unmonitored and I’m pretty sure he has no idea what he’s really saying. But all three of them laugh when he says it! I have no clue how to handle this. How do I explain to my son that all of this is inappropriate without explaining why and thus defining terms/slang he has no business knowing? Any input is greatly appreciated.
So let’s begin with a thoughtful answer to the question of why. Is it because talking this way makes others uncomfortable? Is it because some things should only be talked about in private? Why? Other questions to ask yourself: Is it the language you disapprove of or is it the subject , or both? Knowing the answers to all of these questions will make it easier and more productive when you talk to your kid.
