Shadow energy minister Ted O’Brien has hit out at the Treasurer for labelling Peter Dutton “divisive” and “dangerous” in a recent speech, describing the remarks as a “blatant, personal attack” on the Opposition Leader.
Jim Chalmers on Monday addressed the John Curtin Research Centre for this year’s Curtin Oration in Melbourne,“He is the most divisive leader of a major political party in Australia’s modern history – and not by accident, by choice,” Mr Chalmers told attendees.“At a time when most sane people see political divisiveness around the world and want to reject it, he wants to embrace it.
Mr O’Brien also delivered a blistering assessment of the remarks during an interview with Sky News host Chris Kenny the same day. The shadow energy minister said he believed Australians would “see through” the comments made on Monday. “I mean seriously, this is the government of the day, we are amidst a cost-of-living crisis and the best they can come up with is to attempt some sort of character assassination.
