Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine with Gambit in Marvel Comics
Summary Following his recent debut in the MCU, I would love to see Channing Tatum return for a solo Gambit movie, perhaps as the first project in Marvel Studios' speculated "Mutant Saga." After years of vying for the role of the Cajun Remy LeBeau, Channing Tatum finally made his live-action debut as Marvel's Gambit in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine.
I’m not going to bore everybody with what we were trying to do with our film, but it was an origin story that we were doing. We were trying to make something that actually would be in the world and could play with Deadpool. You put Deadpool in a lot of scenes with other MCU characters, and he could possibly just make fun of them the entire time. But he wouldn’t, because Ryan loves comics and he loves Marvel.
Back in 2014, X-Men producer Lauren Schuler Donner revealed to Total Film that Channing Tatum would appear as Gambit in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, which would then be followed by a solo Gambit movie. This project went through a series of rewrites and several directors before officially being shelved amid Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019.
Channing Tatum has also been a fan-favorite casting for Gambit for several years, which made his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine even more satisfying. His first appearance in live-action has only increased hopes that he'll return. This likely means that any solo movie featuring Channing Tatum's Gambit in the MCU's future would practically have guaranteed viewership and success.
