You're a hero Sarah 👏👏👏
I wrapped up portions in clingfilm so that it didn’t look too dodgy and added a sign saying it was free Surely, I thought, no one is going to want to take this – but within two to three hours, it had all gone. That was seven days ago, and I have been cooking and leaving out food for whoever needs it since.
I can’t imagine how isolating that would be, let alone the thought of older people not having enough to eat, so I decided to batch cook meals every lunchtime and leave them on my front wall. I’ve been putting a list of ingredients out, too. I used to work for a well-known food delivery app, liaising directly with restaurants, so it was natural for me to think about intolerance and allergies. I didn’t want someone to take something and then be ill, and I am conscious that older people aren’t able to digest certain things. So far I haven’t had a problem getting hold of ingredients.
I do get a sense of satisfaction from seeing all the food disappear and it’s no trouble for me: I can cook in my lunch break and as I’m home anyway, it breaks up the day. But I’m certainly not doing it for gratitude.
